Did you ever wonder what your cat is saying?
How to Translate the Cat Language by
Understanding Their Behavior
When it comes to understanding how
to handle your cat’s behavior issues you need to know first what your cat is
trying to say. There are many ways that cats try to communicate with one
another and they are very subtle. What this means is that they use body
language to be able to communicate with one another. It is the way that a cat
moves its ears or the way that it flicks its tail. Cats understand how to speak
to each other in this unspoken way that leads to communications that are
perfect. However, for us, this requires more work.
Because cat’s body language is very
restrained, it is easier for us to understand the ways that cats are trying to
communicate with us when they are communicating with their voice in the same
way that we are communicating. There is a very large range of sounds that cats
can make and it is everything from a purr to a hiss that lets us know how they
are feeling.
Is it Nature or is it Nurture?
Experts always argue which things
cats do are learned and which are instincts. No one is very sure which one is
which and that means that it is an argument that will not be settled. However,
what matters is that we understand what the sounds mean and not which ones are
learned and which ones are instinct.
- What Are Reflex Actions?
Reflex actions are the ones that
happen when you are not thinking about it. You will see that there are some
actions that are absolutely natural that happen when an action happens. What
that means is that it will follow with no thought and no reaction from your
pet.
- What Does All This Science Mean for my Cat?
When you want to train your cat, you
need to understand your cat. Your cat will never do anything that is not
natural. But what you can do is teach your cat how to adapt his or her
behaviors to do what you need to do.
An example of a way that we have
taken the cat’s natural abilities and adapted them is the litterbox. This is
something that is based on the fact that cats will bury their waste in the wild
and so we are able to show them how to adapt this into a behavior that we are
able to use.
How to Speak Feline
Understanding how to speak feline is
about understanding all of the aspects of their body movement, as this is the
way that they communicate with us. There is so much more in this than just the
swishing of a tail or the noises that come out of their name.
Cats use many different sounds that
have a very descriptive name and purpose, in that they are all based around
what it is that they are trying to communicate at the moment. There are many
variations of these and as a cat family you need to understand them in order to
know what is going on with your cat. The cat’s meow is the greatest way that
cats are able to get our attention and it also is a signal to a cat that has a
kitten that their kitten needs something. Cats are relatively loud when they
meow depending on the feeling and the urgency of the need for them. This is
their way of yelling at humans, and indicates that they need to be able to
speak to us as well as get our attention. Kittens meow tons when they are
little, but as they grow they meow less and less and that is because the meow is
saved as one of those ways to get attention when nothing else seems like it is
working for the cat.
When a cat is angry you will hear
the cat hiss. The reason for this is that it is warning whoever or whatever is
coming near it that is should not be coming any closer. Hissing sometimes will
also have a yowl that comes from it and that is to warn again. When a cat is
very frightened it will do the same thing that a human will do and it will
scream.
Cats are very expressive creatures
and there is no lack to the amount of communication that they have with us it
is our job to know how to decipher these communications and ensure that we are
being good parents.
